The ongoing tax dispute between India and Vodafone has erupted again, with the telecoms company now serving a Notice of Dispute against the government's controversial new retrospective tax legislation.

A report prepared by the Center for Strategic and International Studies,

of State for Financial Affairs, Obaid Humaid Al Tayer.
A joint statement released after a meeting in Tokyo of trade ministers from Japan,
China and South Korea stated that they had agreed to accelerate the work of a
current joint study on a tripartite free trade agreement.
During remarks to senior officials from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in Washington, Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Secretary of State, emphasized
the strong commitment of the United States government to free trade in the region,
as long as it is fair, transparent and 'delivers results to the American
people.'
The Institute for Policy Studies and Tufts University in Massachusetts have
coordinated a letter from a group of more than 250 United States and international
economists to the government, urging it to change course and allow other governments
to use capital controls, particularly within the free trade agreements
it negotiates.
The American Institute in Taiwan’s Chairman, Raymond F. Burghardt, in a
recent speech to the American Chamber of Commerce in Taipei, said that, while
Taiwan is one of the United States’ most important economic partners, and
closer economic relations are in the interest of both countries, the present beef
controversy should not be allowed to become an obstacle to re-booting their bilateral
Trade and Investment Framework Agreement.
The Maltese minister of finance, the economy and investment Tonio Fenech and minister for taxation of the People’s Republic of China Xiao Jie have signed a new Agreement for the Avoidance of Double Taxation.
At the end of last month, a United States delegation visited Taipei for meetings
with the Taiwanese government to discuss economic issues, including how to broaden
and deepen their bilateral trade and economic relationship under the existing
bilateral trade and investment framework agreement.
Syrian Assistant Minister of Trade and Economy, Khaled Sallouta has reported
back after meeting with the head of the Brazillian International Negotiations
Department at the country’s Foreign Ministry, Evandro de Sampaio Didonet,

of an agreement with Bangladesh for the protection and promotion of investments, to complement
the double tax agreement initialled by both parties in May 2010.
The Indian Commerce and Industry Minister, Anand Sharma, has disclosed that India
and South Africa are to look at the possibility of establishing a bilateral comprehensive
economic partnership agreement and an investment protection and promotion
agreement.
Hong Kong’s Chief Executive, Donald Tsang, in Moscow for a three-day visit, met
with various members of the Russian government, including President Dmitry Medvedev,
as well as business leaders to carry forward a growing bilateral dialogue on finance,
taxation and investment matters.
