Legislation has been introduced into both the United States Senate and the House
of Representatives to extend the 'cover over' of the excise tax on rum for Puerto
Rico and the US Virgin Islands.
Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner, Pedro Pierluisi, has introduced proposed
legislation into the United States Congress that looks to extend the Supplemental
Security Income programme to Puerto Rico, as well as to Guam, the US Virgin
Islands and American Samoa.
Microsoft, in its Form 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, has disclosed that its effective rate of taxation during that year was 17.5%;
exactly one-half of the United States federal statutory corporate tax rate of
35%.

of the child tax credit - often referred to as the additional child tax credit – for families on the island.

to try and ensure that those tax funds are only used for public services.

on a new survey which analyses trends in the uptake of the Irish government's
Research and Development tax credit.
The effect on Puerto Rico’s future financial position of its need for additional
pension funding was said to be responsible for a threat from Moody’s Investors
Service that the current A3 credit rating on its general bond obligations could
be downgraded.
The Internal Revenue Service has issued a preliminary notice stating that
it will not challenge a United States corporate taxpayer’s position that Puerto Rico’s temporary 4% excise tax be allowable as a credit against
its federal tax liability.

deficit will be closed within two years, and that a series of economic reforms
have been initiated on the island.
On March 4, in the presence of Jennifer López and Marc Anthony, Governor
Luis G. Fortuño signed a new law which greatly improves the tax incentives
available for producing films in Puerto Rico.
A delegation from the Puerto Rico government, including the Lieutenant Governor
Kenneth McClintock and Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce Jose R.
Perez-Riera, has been in New York to build awareness of the extensive revitalization
programmes underway on the Island.
